The difference between the catcher's and the base coach's skull caps are that the catcher's uses a leather-like headband, and the coach only gets foam Rawlings starts with the same hard shell, no matter what size headband they put in. Consequently, the smaller sizes have more padding than the larger. This makes it very difficult to decide what size fits you best. Because the larger sizes have less padding in the head band, you might feel as the shape of the helmet doesn't conform well to your head. Nonetheless, these skull caps are increasing becoming mandatory for coaching the bases or throwing BP in a cage. There are not many different models out there, so it's hard to say you could really do better than the Rawlings.
